I took the Hot Rod  for a drive and got about two blocks and KA POW! In with the clutch and coasted around the corner. Lots of noise so I walked home with my tail between my legs! Chris  the neighbour had a strap  so we hauled it home behind his 1/2 ton.

Seems a tooth came off the input drive gear and took out the cluster second and lots of teeth. Looks like a loser in a bar fight. So am getting another together out of more junk I have laying around.
Anyone checked out the price of just plain old passenger car side shift boxes! Wow! I use a -78 case and car gears and an output from a 1/2 ton "open Drive"
Fatigue I guess as I baby this thing and only have 100 HP.

Bomber Seats

DONE!

Seats are comming together very well!
Getting the rivits done and the seat angle back a bit.

Spent a couple of days with Nick, Building Bomber seats. WE have a bead roller and he motorized it  with a foot control! So nice! Then Nick located a pickup box so we  put it on top of the ratty wood deck to see how it looked without shortening. We decided to leave it stock length just like some  young fellow would have done in 1950. He decided to go with the original length. I agree!
The seats will get some more beads but are going to look quite original. I took up some AN 470 rivets and we did some test riveting and with some of our old Aircraft  bucking bars  and rivet sets we will be OK
Tail gate is as good as any you would find these days

Door repair for Pick up

Back to the truck project!
Someone in the past used a chain around the door?  Only the RH side and mashed the upper part. I got a clapped out rusty door from Terry. Good doors are hard to find up here in the PNWEST, rain country!
So cut out the top and am fitting it in. Will close it up tomorow.
Then I will start doing locks and PWR windows.
High lite these photos for the complete picture size.

DONE! Took the day but am happy how it turned out. now onto something else.

Nice day for a drive

Notice the red filler , That is my vent and oil filler . Hope it works as the Roof does not have any filler at the front and I do not have room at the old fuel pump area. I blanked it off and have a PCV  from it to the manifold.

 Hot Rod runs fine!

I am pleased with the PMG inside the 28 Ford Powerhouse generator case! Indicates about 20 amps and as I have an old curved glass SW  amp gauge that is 15 and 30 amp marks I am OK with that.
The Old Roof intake does not have exhaust heat but as soon as the block is warm all is well.
Doe not have the Jam of the old Flathead I took out but the lack of a knock is nice.

So after another retorque  which will be three and if no change then I call it done.
We took the 56 Chev out for an Ice Cream and sat on a small mountain  Mt Tolmie and looked over the city. About 25 C today, very nice.

I am not the speedball some people are! Any way today I made  a bracket for the coil cover.
Boght some spark plugs the other day. I took in  my Champion UD 16 and some Autolite B9 in and he matched them up as Autolite 386.
Look the same  when I look close and can not see any difference?
So there you go  old big thread  like original and only 34 Cdn $ for all  so I am happy.
Tomorrow is fuel lies and some wireing!

BAD NEWS!!

I decided to take the HOT ROD for a drive a couple of weeks ago.
WE were heading off to Denmark for a couple of weeks and  it was a nice day so decided to go for a spin.
On the way back as I was driving in the driveway a nice loud KNOCK! started.
Rolled into the garage and walked away.

So a couple of weeks later now and
it looks like the backup engine is going in.

I plan on some wiring changes  and the 28 Model A power house gen housing with  Kabota  PMG guts, good for about 25 amps 12 volt. That is all I need.
seems I am going backwards rather than forward!

Truck coming together!

Got some paint on it! I did not do the top of the cab and the doors because I am now starting on the power windows and auto locks for the doors. I will be chasing the doors around on saw horses so no need to scratch them up.

The 49 Plymouth Bumpers  chrome was shot and with all the butchering I did  Paint was the best way to finish it off,Besides I am a cheap skate and chrome these day is Nuts in price!

Made the sun visor from a beat up stock 49 hood and made a leading edge folded over and spot weld every 1 1/2 inch  like stock Ford. The holes are my idea.
47 car hood ornament from Roger and a 47  small V8  that Pete gave me. Thanks guys! The Truch hood has the same curve as the car and with the truck holes filled in I like it.

The sun visor is just about done and to avoid scratching the cab top when I was fitting it I left it in primer. Now will use nutserts and crown head straight "slot"  5/16 screws in the cab and it will look like the Factory did it! But with the crowd I run with they will know it is bogus! But some might think it is a factory option. I do not like the big ugly attach brackets on the rain gutters.

Not sure what the doors will have lettered but they will one  or the other of these.

Bit of a rake but not much different from stock.
I am not a real fan of super low, more or less like this.
